Moruka Designs Fall/Winter 2013 - "Pom Clutch"

I had this idea for a while to do a denim and faux-leather clutch but wanted to do something different from what I normally do. I wanted to do a half circle clutch that opened flat at the top with the circular bottom. Well, after much pattern making, lots of math, and figuring out the mechanics I bring you this bad boy and I like it! I hope you like
it too. :-)

I decided to kick off Sunday, the first day of Fall 2013 & the intro of my Fall/Winter 2013 line with the "Pom Clutch". Why the name? Well a lot of my product names come from back home in Guyana and the earthiness of this clutch reminded me of the Pomeroon area in the Guyana interior so I named it "Pom" for short.

It has a neutral, earthy tone and I wanted that overall look without having to wear jeans with it. These aztec print jersey cutoff pants with the tan chiffon shirt and black shoes felt right. And it wouldn't be complete without an arm party. Good thing it was still warm enough in New York to wear this. My hair is in a separated twist out that was moisturized with The Pomade Shop's LinoMoist.

The Mora Clutch Worn 3 Ways

I’m always looking for different ways to style my Moruka Designs Mora Clutch and I've come up with 3 so far. I like to pair it with contrasting colours to make it really pop. First there was the Unsual Star Jewelry Trunk Show in April. I went neutral and let the clutch stand out.

Then this pink Forever 21 dress and nude shoes. I thought it would be awesome to wear them together with the clutch for a Mother's Day Fashion show.

And lastly, I stumbled upon some high waisted denim shorts I bought back in ‘05 or ‘06. I wore it with this cute yellow & cream shirt and nude shoes then let the Mora Clutch do it's thing again. 

I didn't realize until recently that I had worn this clutch with three different outfits already. This is actually one of my favorites from my line. Who would have thought that this fabric that I bought three years ago near Fort Hamilton to attempt making a dress(that was never made) would turn into something so totally unexpected and beautiful? The clutch is actually named after Mora Street; a street in my childhood neighbourhood in Guyana. Don't really know why I picked the name, it just popped in my head a couple weeks after making it. I like it. :-)

This past Saturday August 10th, 2013 I had my very first trunk show for Moruka Designs Handbags at AK Couture Boutique and Beauty Bar in Brooklyn, NY.  I wanted a bright yet neutral look with some contrast so I went for this bright yellow empire dress, brown and green wedges, and gold accessories. I did my signature side sweep for the hair and neutral makeup using Bare Minerals as the foundation.

I did not know what to expect but did lots of advertising and gave it the 'ole college try. I totally forgot to take pics of the food(how could I forget that?) but I had wine, cheese, crackers, fruit and water. I wasn't nervous once the event actually started. The four hours went by fairly quickly.

I featured my Spring/Summer purses and wallets. There was a mix of my clients as well as AK Couture clients who wanted to get them some Moruka Designs digs. This bad boy was the star of the show. I sold out almost immediately on the two I had in this style.

I had fun interacting with all my customers. What I love the most is the feedback and about how much they liked the purses but I also enjoyed listening to their personal preferences/opinions. The turnout was great and I'm very happy with the overall result.

Outfit Of The Day: July 4th 2013 Weekend recap

Now although it's super obvious I'm not American I was still feelin' the American spirit for America's birthday last week. See I migrated to the U.S. when I was 18 and have spent my entire adult life here. So at the moment America is my home though I'm not sure if I'll be here for the rest of my life. In light of my patriotism I decided to whip something together and decided on two July 4th inspired red, white & blue purses; it was supposed to be one but why not two, right? I made a fold over clutch with a magnetic snap and  zipper clutch both with wristlet straps.  I decided to do a little shoot to show them off before I went out to watch Man of Steel. I personally think they look stunning. What say you?

I put together this simple ensemble for both purses. A white tank, dark blue skinny jeans, and light brown wedges topped off with some gold accessories seemed like the way to go. I had red pumps in mind but there was no way I was walking around in those things.

but my lips are poppin'.

I was going to add stars to them but apart from the fact that it might have ruined the design, the styling options would have been limited. I want to be able to wear these purses any time of year. I've also been playing in makeup lately and I'm loving Make Up Forever's HD 175 foundation and 174 powder. Along with that I did a neutral eye, some blush from the dollar tree(yes, I said dollar tree *_*) and Milani pink lip gloss to make my lips pop. The hair is a side swept twist out I achieved from moisturizing with The Pomade Shop's LinoMoist Conditioning Pomade(review coming soon) and sealing with coconut oil.
