Last Friday night I kicked off the Easter weekend at Roni Simpson's Aldo A-List Party at the 5th Avenue Aldo in NYC. It was a networking/shopping event where she was getting to know people and encouraging us to mingle with each other, while Aldo offered 15% off all purchases. I'd say it was pretty chill with a great turn out and energy plus awesome DJs playing everything from Dancehall/Reggae music from like 10 years ago or more to current Pop/Hip Hop.
I really liked the cheese selections
I got an invite from a friend and it was my first time hearing about Roni of TheLatestReports.com. I'm glad I met her. She was real down to earth, sweet and friendly. Originally a Cali native, she moved to NYC a year ago and I'd say she's doing a great job of fitting in. You know, throwing this sweet networking party and all. She was also SERVING in her black sequin jumper, red lips and fabulous hair!
Roni announcing a raffle winner. I was loving the winged eyeliner on the girl next to her.

This past Saturday March 8th I attended ICollection's Harlem Fashion Week AW14 which was sponsored by Vera Moore Cosmetics, Isoplus & Fashion Avenue News. I ran a little late so I caught the last runway show by Sophia's Things.
So today is my birthday. That's right, 29 years ago on Tuesday November 20th, 1984 a child was born. A future blogger/designer. Who would have thought it? I figured for sure I'd become a lawyer, doctor, teacher, or accountant. Well that's what my family wanted and at one point I thought it was what I wanted as well.
3rd or 4th birthday. I didn't need a boy to cut my cake with. I remember pushing him off the chair too. lol
In truth, if it were up to me I would have never gone to college at all. Not that its had, its just not my thing. I wanted to have my own business. I wanted to be like my Grandmother Evelyn. The woman who put the fight in me and Mom and talk us not to take crap from anyone. I love her and I miss her every day. She was a serial entrepreneur and a DIVA!
October 30th, 2001. 16, fresh out of high school & a student of the University of Guyana. My then boyfriend surprised me with a photo shoot. If I showed the rest of the outfit I'd be committing fashion suicide.
At 29 I see myself getting closer to where I want to be and although things can be a little better, I am thankful for what I have accomplished in the 11 years I have been in the United States. I am thankful for life, health, strength and the people who love me. This particular birthday is particularly emotional for me. Not that I have never been thankful before but because I'm pushing 30! Ahhhh!! My age is gonna be off the almanac in 2 years! But getting older is a good thing, aye? It shows life and growth.
29, grown and sexy.
Thank you to everyone who has made my life better even in the smallest of ways. You are all loved and appreciated.
Any recent birthdays?
What have you realized as you've gotten older? Anything that you would do over? What are you thankful for?
It's been two years since I did my official serious post into bloggerhood. I started in 2005, fell off, and stumbled along the way till September 22nd, 2011(HERE) when I realized my blogger purpose.
I’m always looking for different ways to style my Moruka Designs Mora Clutch and I've come up with 3 so far. I like to pair it with contrasting colours to make it really pop. First there was the Unsual Star Jewelry Trunk Show in April. I went neutral and let the clutch stand out.

Then this pink Forever 21 dress and nude shoes. I thought it would be awesome to wear them together with the clutch for a Mother's Day Fashion show.
And lastly, I stumbled upon some high waisted denim shorts I bought back in ‘05 or ‘06. I wore it with this cute yellow & cream shirt and nude shoes then let the Mora Clutch do it's thing again.
I didn't realize until recently that I had worn this clutch with three different outfits already. This is actually one of my favorites from my line. Who would have thought that this fabric that I bought three years ago near Fort Hamilton to attempt making a dress(that was never made) would turn into something so totally unexpected and beautiful? The clutch is actually named after Mora Street; a street in my childhood neighbourhood in Guyana. Don't really know why I picked the name, it just popped in my head a couple weeks after making it. I like it. :-) Check out the Mora Clutch in my Etsy Shop here & here. I made it in two styles.
So I'm back like fo' real fo' reals. I've wanted to come back but was craving a new direction and now I think I've found it. This blog was started to document my hair journey transitioning to natural hair and along the way I learned that I'm not just about my hair. I've discovered new talents, gotten into business, learned how to thrift shop(and my wardrobe thanks me for.it), interacted with bloggers online and in person, etc.
Blogging has really helped me grow and with that being said I'd like to turn Guyanesesista.com into more than just a hair blog. I want to share more with my readers. It will be a bit more of a lifestyle blog. Hence the new tagline: "The Woman, her hair & three sewing machines".There will still be hair posts but also event, DIY, outfit of the day(I notice that every once in a while I surprise myself), thrift store alterations, etc. There will also be a new layout in the near future.
So that's it for now. Thank you all for reading. Also...
