13 Things To Do When You're Snowed In

As the entire country knows by now, the East Coast is being pummeled by #SNOWPOCALYPSE2015. It's a white, blustery, windy, frigid, blasted mess out there. New Yorkers are stranded all over the place because Mayor DeBlasio closed the subways & put an 11pm curfew on drivers so that the streets can be plowed. People sleeping at work &/or huddled up inside bodegas. Others are buying enough food to last through Spring & Home Depot can't keep enough rock salt in stock. Schools & some workplaces are even shut down for tomorrow. And most devastating of all, Facebook & Instagram went down & all through Twitterland everyone was in an absolute meltdown panic. No wonder my Facebook post about doing this blog post wouldn't load. hmph  But what if Facebook, Twitter & Instagram really disappeared though? Scary.......

So what's a girl to do when she's all snowed in? Well here's what I did. I'm sure pretty much everyone did variations of these but in case you didn't here are some ways to pass the time.

1.) Watch Netflix - I recommend Marco Polo & Peaky Blinders.

2.) Eat donuts - Or some other junk food that isn't good for you. I left my jelly donut in the microwave too long. Who knew 30 seconds was too long for a jelly donut? Damn near all my jelly came out.

3.) Drink Alcohol - This is a no brainer. Wine, rum, vodka, tequila.......

4.) Sit by the window & watch the snow fall. Maybe take some pictures. Some dude got arrested at the store across the street. Took 4 police cars for ONE dude.

5.) Watch Youtube - I caught up on:

Kevonstage

Trace Ellis Ross

DessyGT

6.) Watch people shovel snow - Shout out to the home & car owners. I just know my mom is gonna make me shovel her car out of the damn snow.

7.) Use social media - Play on Twitter since Facebook & Instagram are down for the night. Keep refreshing to see if they are back up. UPDATE: They were back up around 2:10am

8.) Watch TV - I caught up on the snow news

Testing out my new wig
9.) Take random selfies

10.) Cook

11.) Write a blog post - Like I'm doing now.

12.) Listen to the sounds of the wind and snow plows dragging through the street. You just know that as soon as they leave the snow will pile back up.

13.) Take a nap - The main reason why I'm up writing a blog post.

BONUS!!!
14.) Listen to music - 50's Rock n' Roll was my music of choice. La Bamba is my fave 50's song. Pandora is wonderful.

Sometimes I just wanna leave New York & move to Cali. The prospect of rolling out of bed & throwing on shorts to run errands is enticing.

So what are you doing to pass the time?

Do you have to go to work?

Parents. What plans have you made for your kids since

schools are closed?

Recap: YouTube Unplugged Concert NYC - #YTunplugged

This past Friday November 1st 2013 I attended the first YouTube Music Awards - YouTube Unplugged Concert at the Google building on 9th avenue, New York. I found out about it on Chescaleigh's Instagram account and quickly snatched that link up! The event was slated to start at 4pm, I arrived a little after 4:30pm. Upon arriving I met three greeters in the lobby. I was given my name tag and then escorted on the elevator by one of the greeters to the concert location. Very nice and friendly. I give them an A.

As I entered the room there weren't a lot of people there. I'd say about 50 or 60? I'm sure it was more but it wasn't crowded. At that moment the audience was standing around the stage as a YouTube musician sang, this was where I met up with my friend Leah. It was a very intimate setting which was a nice surprise because I was expecting a mob scene. There were a number of performers which included Chescaleigh(whose performance I missed along with others because of my lateness. Very upsetting.) and Megan and Liz who are new to me and I must say that after all these days their song Release You is still stuck in my head. They were great, I loved their voices and Liz is super nice. We tried to find Megan to take a pic together but...

Then there was a t-shirt giveaway and dubstep dance led by iJustine.

Then we were able to meet the YouTubers to talk and take photos. I took photos with Leah and then talked to Liz of Megan and Liz, Chescaleigh, and iJustine after the crowd broke up. I already knew of Chescaleigh, but not about the other Youtubers I met as I'm now getting into YouTube more but I am now subscribed to them. I loved that I was able to meet them because they are amazing and I'm glad I was able to witness it in person first.

Over all I liked the event. Google did a great job with the ambience and most importantly the intimate setting. I had mentally prepared myself for a long line and wait, so again I say, I was pleasantly surprised. I always knew the YouTube was a great place for undiscovered talent, i.e. Just Bieber but it really didn't hit me till now how important the medium REALLY is. Seeing these people in person and not on screen is a whole different experience. I met other YouTubers with their own channels that are not as popular the day's performers but they are trying to make name for themselves and will get there and beyond one day. It gives a chance to those who otherwise probably won't get discovered. This doesn't only ring true for musicans but for anyone with someone they believe is valuable whether it's a product, a service, or experience. I remember watching Maya Washington aka Shameless Maya's very first shameless self promotion video a little over a year ago and it is wonderful how much she has grown over the year. I just started my own YouTube channel and hope to be as great as she and all the others I met one day. Kudos to Google.

Thank you for reading.

HELP DELROY SIMMONS. HE SAVED A CHILD'S LIFE.

Let's help this good Brooklyn father who was on his way to a job interview after being unemployed for a long time, and ended up saving the life of a toddler who was swept unto the J-train tracks as the train was approaching. He missed his interview but was rewarded with a job a few days later because of this story. Just like the lady who was taunted on the school bus, I feel this good man deserves some kind of reward too!! Please help a good Brother out!!

Story taken from Yahoo!

"Unemployed man who saved toddler from oncoming subway train in Brooklyn gets a job"

"An unemployed Brooklyn man who was hailed as a "superhero without a cape"—or a job—after he rescued a 9-month-old boy from an oncoming subway train on Tuesday now has a job.
Delroy Simmonds, 30, was hired as a maintenance worker at John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to the Daily News.
"We read the story and were like, 'Wow! This is unbelievable. This guy is a hero,'" Guy Rodriguez, the project manager who hired Simmonds, said.
On Tuesday, Simmonds jumped from an elevated platform to save the toddler, whose stroller had been blown onto the tracks by a wind gust. The boy's mother, Maria Zamara, "stood frozen in shock,"according to the paper.
Simmonds—who was on his way to a job interview—"jumped onto the elevated tracks and hoisted the bleeding child—still strapped into his stroller—to the safety of the platform as the J train bore down on them."

According to witnesses, Simmonds did not hesitate.
"He jumped down there, no questions," Khalima Ansari told CBS's New York affiliate. "It was quick, it was real quick."
"Everybody is making me out to be some sort of superhero," Simmonds, a father of two, told the paper. "I'm just a normal person. Anybody in that situation should have done what I did."
The child was treated at a local hospital for cuts to the face and head, and is "doing fine."
Simmonds, who said he had been out of work since being laid off as a vocational trainer for the mentally disabled over a year ago, missed his interview.
"What I really need is a job," he said.
Not anymore."
